فعل‌های عبارتی پژوهش و دانشگاه: پیدا کردن و خواندن منبع، آزمودن و انتخاب، تحلیل داده، تفسیر یافته‌ها و ارائه‌ی نتیجه؛ همان‌هایی که در سمینار، مقاله و آزمون ریدینگ و اسپیکینگ می‌شنوی. هر کارت فقط یک معنی از یک فعل عبارتی را آموزش می‌دهد؛ معنی‌های دیگر همان فعل در دسته‌های دیگر هست و در صفحه‌ی خودِ واژه خودکار به هم لینک می‌شوند. در آیلتس اسپیکینگ فعل‌های عبارتی طبیعی و خوشایندند، ولی در رایتینگ آکادمیک تسک ۲ معمولاً معادل رسمی تک‌کلمه‌ای (که در کارت آمده) انتخاب بهتری است.

معادل رسمی برای نوشتار: investigate · examine
look into it ✓ (جدا نمی‌شود: look it into ✗). دقیق‌تر و جدی‌تر از look at. در اسپیکینگ طبیعی است: «I'll look into it» = بررسی می‌کنم. رایتینگ: investigate یا examine.
I'm looking into the possibility of doing a master's degree abroad.
دارم امکان ادامه‌ی تحصیل در مقطع کارشناسی ارشد در خارج از کشور را بررسی می‌کنم.

معادل رسمی برای نوشتار: utilise · employ
جدانشدنی: draw on it ✓ / draw it on ✗. مفعول معمولاً منبعی از دانش یا تجربه است. در رایتینگ آکادمیک طبیعی است (draw on the work of ...) و با upon هم می‌آید: draw upon (رسمی‌تر). تک‌کلمه: utilise.
The author draws on interviews with more than fifty farmers.

جداشدنی: trace it back ✓ / trace back it ✗. trace it back to ✓. بیشتر مجهول می‌آید: «can be traced back to». با to مبدأ را می‌گوید. در رایتینگ: the origins of X can be traced to ... (در نوشتار رسمی back گاهی حذف می‌شود).

جدانشدنی: dig into it ✓ / dig it into ✗. عمیق‌تر و زمان‌برتر از look into. در اسپیکینگ: «I'd like to dig into this topic.» گفتاری‌تر از investigate؛ در رایتینگ رسمی: examine.

جدانشدنی: sift through it ✓ / sift it through ✗. تصویر غربال: چیزهای بی‌فایده را رد می‌کنی تا مفید بماند. فرق با skim through: skim فقط سرسری نگاه کردن است.
Researchers had to sift through thousands of old letters to find a few useful details.
