افعال عبارتی پرکاربرد سطح B2 که در همه‌ی موقعیت‌ها به کار می‌آیند: فهمیدن، پیدا کردن، تصمیم گرفتن و کنار آمدن. هر کارت فقط یک معنی از فعل عبارتی را یاد می‌دهد؛ معنی‌های دیگر همان فعل در دسته‌های دیگر هستند و در صفحه‌ی خود واژه به هم لینک می‌شوند. نکته‌ی آیلتس: افعال عبارتی در Speaking طبیعی و مناسب‌اند، ولی در Academic Writing Task 2 معمولاً معادل رسمی تک‌کلمه‌ای (مثل postpone به‌جای put off) انتخاب بهتری است.

    جداشدنی: figure it out ✓ / figure out it ✗. معمولاً بعد از کمی فکر یا آزمون‌وخطا. در گفتار بسیار رایج است؛ در رایتینگ رسمی determine یا work out the cause بهتر است.

    جداشدنی: weigh them up ✓ / weigh up them ✗. با weigh up the pros and cons دو طرف مسئله را می‌سنجی. برای Speaking Part 3 که باید دو طرف را بسنجی عالی است.

    She had two job offers and spent a week weighing them up.

    او دو پیشنهاد کاری داشت و یک هفته را صرف سبک‌سنگین کردن آن‌ها کرد.

    ناگذر و بیشتر در جمله‌ی منفی: It doesn't add up. معنی «جمع زدن اعداد» (add up the bill) یک معنی جدا و ساده‌تر است و در دسته‌ی خرید آمده است.

    His story just doesn't add up, because the times don't match.

    حرف‌های او هیچ جور درنمی‌آید، چون ساعت‌ها با هم نمی‌خوانند.

    ناگذر؛ برای مفعول معمولاً on یا at می‌آید: look back on my childhood. Looking back در شروع جمله خیلی طبیعی است: Looking back, I should have asked for help. معنی «پشت سر را نگاه کردن» هم دارد.

    When I look back on my school years, I mostly remember my friends.

    وقتی به سال‌های مدرسه فکر می‌کنم، بیشتر دوستانم یادم می‌آیند.

    معادل رسمی برای نوشتار: distinguish · differentiate

    جداشدنی: tell them apart ✓ / tell apart them ✗. اغلب با can't یا hard to می‌آید. ساختار هم‌معنی: tell A from B. تشخیص دادن در رایتینگ: distinguish between A and B.

    The two sisters look so alike that I can't tell them apart.

    آن دو خواهر آن‌قدر شبیه هم‌اند که نمی‌توانم تشخیصشان بدهم.
