وارونگی برای تأکید: Never have I...
Inversion for emphasis
Never have I seen...، Not only does she...، No sooner had we... than. وارونگی فاعل و فعل کمکی بعد از قیدهای منفی، و شرطی بدون if (Had I known...). ابزار نوشتار رسمی و سخنرانی.

قید منفی یا محدودکننده + فعل کمکی + فاعل
وقتی جمله با یک قید منفی یا محدودکننده شروع شود (Never، Rarely، Seldom، Little، Not only، Under no circumstances، Only when/after)، ترتیب مثل سؤال می‌شود: فعل کمکی قبل از فاعل. اگر فعل کمکی نداریم، do/does/did اضافه می‌کنیم و فعل اصلی ساده می‌شود. این ساختار رسمی و تأکیدی است.
- Never have I seen such a beautiful sunset.هرگز چنین غروب زیبایی ندیده‌ام.
- Rarely do we see such dedication in young athletes.به‌ندرت چنین پشتکاری در ورزشکاران جوان می‌بینیم.
- Not only does she speak three languages, but she also plays the piano.نه‌تنها سه زبان بلد است، بلکه پیانو هم می‌زند.

شرطی بدون if
در نوشتار رسمی می‌شود if را حذف کرد و فعل کمکی را جلو آورد: Had I known = If I had known؛ Should you need = If you need؛ Were I to = If I were to.
- Had I known about the strike, I would have taken a taxi.اگر از اعتصاب خبر داشتم، تاکسی می‌گرفتم.

فعل کمکی را جا نینداز
فارسی وارونگی فاعل و فعل ندارد و «هرگز چنین چیزی ندیده‌ام» با ترتیب عادی گفته می‌شود؛ برای همین فارسی‌زبان‌ها می‌نویسند Never I have seen ✗ یا Not only he speaks ✗. یادت باشد بعد از do/does/did فعل اصلی ساده است (Not only does he speak، نه speaks). در ضمن no sooner با than جفت می‌شود و hardly با when. در گفتگوی روزمره زیاد از این ساختار استفاده نکن؛ مصنوعی به نظر می‌رسد.
