Prepositions of place: under, next to, between
در خانه و اتاق بگو هر چیز کجاست: in، on، under، next to، between، behind، in front of و opposite. با Where is…? بپرس و با It's… جواب بده، و of یا to را در in front of و next to جا نینداز.

بپرس و جواب بده: Where is…? It's…
برای پرسیدن جای یک چیز بگو Where is…? (کوتاه: Where's…?) و برای چند چیز Where are…? جواب با It's… یا They're… شروع می‌شود. در صحبت روزمره جواب کوتاه هم کافی است: Under the bed. قبل از اسم جاها معمولاً the یا my، your و… می‌آید: on the desk، in my bag.
- Where's my pen? – It's on your desk.خودکارم کجاست؟ – روی میزت است.
- Where are the plates? – They're in the cupboard.بشقاب‌ها کجا هستند؟ – توی کابینت‌اند.
- Where's the remote? – Between the cushions.کنترل کجاست؟ – بین کوسن‌ها.

between، in front of و opposite
between یعنی وسطِ دو چیز و معمولاً با and می‌آید: between the sofa and the window. in front of یعنی «جلوی» همان چیز، از همین طرف؛ opposite یعنی «روبه‌روی» آن، از طرف مقابل (مثلاً آن طرف میز یا آن طرف خیابان). next to دو کلمه است و to آن حذف نمی‌شود.
- The TV is between the two windows.تلویزیون بین دو پنجره است.
- Sara is in front of the board.سارا جلوی تخته است.
- At dinner, I sit opposite my father.سر شام، روبه‌روی پدرم می‌نشینم.

دام فارسی‌زبان‌ها: کسره‌ی «زیرِ» و «جلویِ»
در فارسی بعد از «زیر»، «پشت» و «کنار» کسره می‌آید («زیرِ میز») و فارسی‌زبان‌ها جایش of می‌گذارند: under of the table که غلط است. under، behind و opposite بعدشان of نمی‌گیرند. ولی in front of همیشه of دارد و next to همیشه to: in front of the house، next to the door. «توی» هم in است و «روی» on؛ «روی صندلی» = on the chair. سؤال را هم با ترتیب فارسی نساز: Where are my keys?، نه Where my keys are?
